Performing Troupe/Library Volunteer Hours Opportunity
Friends of the Waco McLennan Library Adults
and responsible teens are needed regularly throughout the year to help organize the donations that
come in for the annual Friends of the Library book sale. Anyone interested should contact Kim Salome,
the Volunteer Coordinator at the library at 750-5974.
Teen
Summer Library Volunteers
Who: Teens aged 13-17
What: Community Service Hours - Children’s area desk help
When: Many weekly time shifts available

Teens interested in encouraging children to read, helping children sign
up for the library’s summer reading program, and helping answer simple
log-in questions for the children’s computer area are encouraged to
apply to become a regular volunteer at Central Library over the summer.
Teens may possibly choose up to 2 weekly time shifts. Time shifts are
generally in 2 hour increments throughout the day on Monday-Friday. For
example, a teen might choose to volunteer from 9-11 on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. All hours logged in will count towards a certificate of
community service hours.

Summer Teen Performing
Troupe/Library Volunteer Hours Opportunity
Where: Central Library
When: Wednesdays 2-4 pm
What: Plan, Practice, Perform
Who: Teens aged 13-17
This summer, 15 teens (aged 13-17) will be chosen to be the Waco
McLennan County Library Performing Troupe. The group will meet for 2
hours on Wednesdays in June and July to select, plan, adapt/write a
script from stories (most likely fables), cast, block, and perform for
story hours at all of the WMC libraries during the first week of
August. The 2 hours per week on Wednesdays in June and July, as well as
the 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. hours for the first week of August will count
towards community service hours. Performances of puppet show and play
will be August 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th. Students may log
in their times and will receive a certificate at the end of the
performance week. Props and costumes will be provided. Teens may leave
with a parent for lunch during that week in August, or may bring a sack
lunch. There is limited space available. Interested parties must
contact Stacey Phillips at 750-5956 at Central Library. Deadline is May
23rd, but she may fill all of the spots before that time, so
please act quickly!
