READING FOR PIZZA! Individual Families Can Now Enroll in Pizza Hut's Book It! Reading Program. Each year Pizza Hut offers BOOK IT!, a K-6 reading incentive program that gives a free personal pan pizza to a child who meets a monthly reading goal set by his teacher (aka parent for most of us homeschoolers). This program is FREE and runs from October through March of each school year. In past years homeschoolers could sign up through a group coordinator; but as of March 2008, Pizza Hut has decided to enroll homeschoolers on an individual family basis only. If you would like to enroll your child, please visit www.bookitprogram.com to place an order via their online ordering system or to download an order form (Click on Enrollment, then BOOK IT! Grades K-6, then Homeschool, and follow instructions from there.). You can also enroll by calling the BOOK IT! hotline at 1-800-426-6548 (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. CT M-F). BOOK IT! program materials will be distributed directly to each participating family by mid-September. This is a great way to motivate readers or add some fun to your school year. The program is available for 6 months, but you do not have to complete every month in order to participate. . . you can sign up and just use it once, or every other month; or,if you love the pizza, go for all six! If you visit the teacher section of the website, you will find suggested reading goals, as well as printable reading tracking forms, a story map, book review and story sequence forms you can use to enrich the reading experience (see Reproducibles under the Teacher section). Book-It is a reading incentive program for K-6 students sponsored by Pizza Hut and open to home school children who sign up through the coordinator.
